PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR/ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
As an OT professional, I have numerous professional and ethical standards that I must live up to. Firstly, to be a professional, I must look like one. I must wear the the proper dress attire, be clean and well-groomed, and avoid getting anything on my body which could scare clients such as tattoos and body piercings. I also have the responsibility of acting like a professional. I must always be friendly and have a positive attitude with my clients. It is important to get to know my clients somewhat personally yet not get too personal and keep the relationship a professional one. It is critical for me to always respect my profession, other professions, my clients and my co-workers by never "bad-mouthing" any professions or individuals. Ethically speaking, I must always be sure that my treatment plans have the clients' best interests in mind. I must never do something that will harm others in any way in order to benefit myself. I must look into offering discounted services when appropriate and consistent with my employer's policies. Lastly, it is extremely important that I always represent the occupational therapy profession in a positive way. This includes having high ethical standards outside of my practice and always trying to be a productive member of society.
